May 17, 2005 (Volume 4)
IN THIS ISSUE: (1) The Judicial Council Forms Update for 2005 is available for
purchase and download from the HiPerSoft website. Please see our
Judicial Council Forms Purchase Page for
details.
(2) If there is one feature that makes the makes the PIP better than all other
Case Management systems, although we believe there are many, it would have to be its ability to
create content-rich documents using the Custom Forms generator and the Pull Down Menu System (PDMS).
Both of these features were designed to allow you to incorporate your own library of forms into
the PIP system. Read "How to Integrate Your Tried and True Forms into the P.I. Powertool" below
to find out how to add documents to your PIP and how to change the forms that came with your PIP system.
(3) Finally, we are making a "last call" to ask you to take the
"Pop-up Warnings" Feature Survey. You will have until May 27 to provide your input, after which
the survey results will be used as a template for the development of this new feature.

The PIP comes with many of the most commonly used forms for the Plaintiff Practice. These forms
range from introductory letters ( Client Opening Letter) all the way to pre-trial documents
Witness List). A
Complete list of our forms can
be found on the
Custom Forms page of our website.
However, the practice of law is an “art”, not a science, and we realize that most of our clients have
developed their own forms throughout their years of practice. In order to make your PIP even more
valuable to your practice, we have provided you with 3 ways to incorporate your forms into our system.
First, we have created the
Pull Down Menu System (PDMS)
which can store up to 225 of your forms. The
PDMS module plugs into your WordPerfect menu system and provides you with a quick and easy way to
retrieve your forms so they can be used to create a new document or inserted into the document that
you are currently working on. The
PDMS User Guide can be
downloaded from our website at no charge.
Second, we have given you the ability to MODIFY documents that are included with the PIP
in the Custom Forms generator. Custom Forms documents are created in WordPerfect by inserting case
data from the PIP into a template form. All of the Custom Forms come with open source code which
you can modify as desired. A document entitled
“How to
Modify Custom Forms” can be downloaded from our website at no charge. This document explains
naming conventions, the process by which Custom Forms are created, and instructions on how to modify
the forms themselves.
Third, if you really want to customize your PIP, we can even give you the ability to ADD documents
to your list of Custom Forms. This feature is available with the “Custom Forms Course”, which consists
of 2 hours of personal training and a course guide. The course has been designed for our clients who
are technically savvy, or have staff members with programming skills. There is a charge for the course,
and we encourage you to call HiPerSoft (909-621-3554) if you are interested.
We encourage you to take a look at all of these options before deciding how to incorporate a specific
document. We also offer the following guidelines to help you decide which documents will be suitable
to incorporate, and which option you should use to incorporate them:
1. Only incorporate forms that you use at least once per week.
2. Any text that is used as a component part of another document (ie., bodies of letters, objections
to discovery and discovery requests, points and authorities, boilerplate paragraphs and verbiage) are
best integrated using the PDMS (Option 1)
3. Look at the list of Custom Forms which are included with your PIP. If the document that you want
to incorporate is on that list, then modify the appropriate Form File used to create that Custom
Form (Option 2).
4. If you are very savvy with technology, then please call us so that we can provide you with more
information about the Custom Forms Course (Option 3). |
